Kent State senior guard Larissa Lurken asserted her dominance through the first three games of the Kent State women basketball’s season, coming into Monday’s game against the University of Detroit Mercy averaging 27 points per game.

Lurken and the Flashes (2-2) hit their first real sang of the season, as they got blown out 73-52 on the road by Detroit Mercy (2-2).

Lurken — who came into the game needing only eight points to have 1,000 points in her Kent State career — made only one of 12 shots and only managed to score five points.

Detroit Mercy came out of the gates hot in the wire-to-wire win, as they led 23-18 at the end of the first quarter and 39-26 at halftime.

The Titians were led on offense by senior guard Rosanna Reynolds, who scored 17 points — seven of which came at the free throw line. Junior forward Brianne Cohen chipped in with 14 points.

Kent State was cold all night, as they only managed to shoot 26.2 percent from the field. Senior forward Chelsi Watson had one of her best games as a member of the Flashes, scoring 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds en route to the double-double. The Flashes actually won the rebounding battle 46-43.

The Flashes will play again on Friday when they travel to Estero, Florida, to take on Baylor University as a part of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
