Jewelry artist Christina Miller is set to speak at Kent State Friday afternoon as part of Kent State’s School of Art First Friday Lecture Series.

Her lecture will cover sustainability in the context of jewelry, enameling and metals, according to the event information page on Kent State’s website.

“One of the main messages I’m trying to convey is that, if done well, jewelry can be a significant change agent,” Miller said.

Miller is one of a number of guest lecturers being featured in the guest lecture series. She is also the co-founder of the group Ethical Metalsmiths, where the main goal is to focus on social and environmental responsibility. This includes ethical mining and resource-gathering for their jewelry and other pieces.

With the upcoming lecture, she hopes to promote ethical metal-smithing, especially among students.

Miller’s lecture takes place at noon in room 165 of the new Center for Visual Arts.
