Kent State lacrosse drops inaugural MAC showdown to RMU

The Kent State lacrosse team played the first Mid-American Conference in the programs history. The 2021 season is the MAC’s first year with a women’s lacrosse league.

The Flashes would lose the game to Robert Morris University 18-3 after allowing 12 unanswered goals to start the game. 

Junior midfielder Madison Rapier would score a goal at the end of the first half to avoid the shutout. Rapier has now scored in each of the first three games of the season. 

In the second half, RMU would outscore the Flashes 6-2. Junior midfielder Abby Jones would score the two goals for KSU. 

RMU senior midfielder Clio Kerr led the Colonials with four goals. 

The Flashes fall to 0-3 on the season and RMU improves to 3-0. 

KSU only had seven shots on goal to the Colonials 30. 

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Monturo started in the net in the second half and made seven saves while holding the Colonials to six goals. 

For the third week in a row, the Flashes lost the draw control battle by double-digits. RMU would win 17 while KSU would win five. 

The Flashes will next play at Cincinnati (1-2) on Sunday, March 7.
