Former Kent State baseball standout Travis Shaw was traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday morning, as first reported by FOX Sports.

The Red Sox traded Shaw to the Brewers for set-up man Tyler Thornberg — a move that pencils in Pablo Sandoval as the Red Sox starting third baseman next season. Shaw — who Red Sox fans nicknamed “the Mayor of Ding Dong city” for his uncanny power — has played in 210 games over the past two years, amassing a .251 average to go along with 29 home runs and 107 RBI.

Thornberg recorded career-high 90 strikeouts last year for the Brewers to go along with a 2.15 ERA and 0.90 WHIP, and he will most likely be used as the setup for Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel.

The Red Sox also sent prospects Mauricio Dubon and Josh Pennington to Milwaukee in the deal.

Shaw — who played for Kent State from 2009-11 — hit 36 homer runs and drove in 143 RBI during his time as a Flash. He led the Flashes to the NCAA tournament in all three of his years on the team. Shaw was a 2011 NCAA Mideast Region Second Team pick, and he was drafted in the ninth round (292 overall pick) of the 2011 MLB First-year Player Draft by the Red Sox.
