One of the largest peaceful demonstrations in United States history followed Donald J. Trump’s inauguration. The inauguration of the 45th president, held Friday, was broadcast across the National Mall while bystanders watched the ceremony. Outside the mall, a mix of supporters and demonstrators crowded the streets of Washington, D.C.

Supporters came from as far away as California to witness their candidate transition into the Oval Office, while protestors could be found on the streets leading into the ceremony on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

The next day, cities across the country were flooded with marchers as the Women’s March protested against the newly sworn-in president. News outlets have estimated the number in Washington, D.C., as anywhere from 400,000 to over 800,000. Nationwide, there were roughly 1.1 million of protesters nationwide.

Regardless of personal belief, this weekend saw citizens exercising their First Amendment rights in true fashion. KentWired staff attended the inauguration and Women’s March in D.C. and other Women’s Marches in Cleveland and Kent.
