Alpha Xi Delta to host fashion show in support of Autism Awareness

A model in Gracy Lane attire struts the runway at the For the Love of Fashion 2017 fashion show Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 in the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center. All proceeds from the event benefited the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation’s support for Autism Speaks.

Kent State sorority Alpha Xi Delta and College Town Kent are hosting a fashion show Friday night to support the Autism Speaks foundation, the leading researcher, fundraiser and supporter of Autism awareness.

The show, called “For The Love of Fashion Show,” will be held at the Kent State University Hotel & Conference Center and feature clothing, hair and makeup trends for the new year in Kent’s local retail shops: Carnaby Street Style, Gracylane, One Love Yoga Boutique, Rush By Dino Palmieri and UniversiTees.

Autism spectrum disorders are “characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors,” according to the Autism Speaks foundation website.

Alpha Xi Delta raised $54,000 last year for Autism Speaks, the chapter’s national philanthropy. The sorority holds several events throughout the semester to raise money and awareness for the foundation.

Food will be offered from Kent’s restaurants during the show, as well as a cash bar.

After the show, guests will be open to shop for their favorite outfits from the runway.

Tickets may be purchased online or at the door, with a $10 general admission fee and a “swag bag” offered to the first 50 people in the door. VIP tickets are available for $20 and include reserved seating and a “swag bag.”
