Risman Drive to close Saturday for construction

Kent State sent out a notification Friday morning stating Risman Drive will be closed starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday to prepare for Phase II of the Summit Street Improvement Project.

“Traffic will resume at the end of the workday on Saturday. I suspect they will be done around 4 or 5 (p.m.),” said Jon Giaquinto, senior engineer for the City of Kent.

The road will be blocked for construction crews putting in a new underground storm sewer.

The Summit Street Improvement Project Phase II is scheduled to begin in early March. Construction crews are doing preparation work in the Campus Center parking lot and now on Risman Drive.

“A lot of different closures (are) coming up throughout the year, (and construction workers) will be working on Willow Street up to Fraternity Circle. They’re scheduled to work all the way through November on this section of Summit Street,” Giaquinto said. “I know they are going to try to hit it hard over the summer and over spring break when a lot of people aren’t here.”
