FlashChats offer alumni chance to stay connected

Kent State University Alumni Association (KSUAA) will host “FlashChat” on April 11 and 25 from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m.

These events will be conducted through Facebook Live, which is a feature on Facebook that allows users to share live videos.

Lauren Lee, associate producer of CNN and a 2011 graduate, will be speaking April 11, and Todd Mesek will be speaking April 25. Mesek is a 1990 graduate and the vice president of marketing and communication for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The idea behind FlashChat came from a need to keep alumni all over the country connected.

“We just thought that going virtual was the way we could really start giving alumni ways to kind of pop in if they want to stay connected,” said Laura Andrews, KSUAA’s assistant director of marketing.

Each speaker will talk about their careers and their time at Kent State. They will also be answering questions asked in the comments during the event.

Andrews said a survey they conducted a few years prior revealed alumni enjoyed learning about other alumni.

“They really liked hearing other alum’s stories, so that was kind of the driving force, too,” Andrews said.
