As part of an ongoing fundraising effort, Kent State’s Phi Mu will be hosting Miracle Madness this Sunday to raise money for Akron Children’s Hospital.
The first-time event — a bracket-style basketball tournament event — will take place at the Kent State Recreation and Wellness Center at 10 a.m.. Participating teams will be made up of members of different sororities and fraternities.
“So far, this (fundraising) event is going well and I think that we will hold it again in the future,” said Claire Greene, a sophomore psychology major and Phi Mu philanthropy chair. “It’s a lot easier than the event we hold in the fall and requires less planning.”
Teams can earn points before the tournament by attending other fundraising events held by Phi Mu and by purchasing shirts made for specifically for the fundraising effort.
“For this event, we held a dine to donate at Pizza Fire … we also held a new fundraiser called ‘Milkshakes for Miracles,’ where we had unlimited milkshakes and toppings for $5,” Greene said. “So far the Alpha Xi Delta team is the top fundraiser.”
First and second place winners, along with the top fundraising team in each bracket, all get rewarded with trophies
Pre-sale tickets are available for $8 through any Phi Mu member, and $10 at the door the day of the event. All money raised will go toward Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
