Kent Junior Chamber of Commerce to host 8th annual Grill for Good

Kent Junior Chamber of Commerce’s 8th annual Grill for Good fundraiser takes place Sat., June 10, from noon to six p.m. All proceeds from the event will go to Family and Professional Services, Inc and Coleman Professionals.

Grill for Good features approximately 20 “foodies” — volunteer cooks of all types — ranging from individuals to restaurants and local businesses. The $10 entry fee allows participants to select one appetizer and one drink from a vendor of their choice.

Event co-chair Catherine Slapnicker said the the event is projected to have a large turnout, estimating a couple thousand people will attend.

“This is an event that has definitely grown over time,” she said.

In addition to the foodies, the event will feature musicians and beer. The highlight of the event is the wing contest, Slapnicker said.

“It’s separate from what the foodies do,” Slapnicker said. “We only have a handful of participants, but everyone is eligible to participate.”

The judges for the contest include Kent State football coach Paul Haynes, Kent Mayor Jerry Fiala, Kent Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lori Wemhoff and U.S. Foods produce specialist Jeff Jarrett.

Grill for Good will be centralized at the Hometown Bank Plaza, located on the corner of North Water Street and West Main Street.
