Kent State men’s basketball team picked up former Tulane University guard Kain Harris for the 2018-2019 season.

“He’s an incredible athlete,” said coach Rob Senderoff.

After redshirting this upcoming 2017-2018 season due to NCAAtransfer rules, Harris will have two years of eligibility left.

“We’re going to work to try and get his game better,” Senderoff said. “He’s got to become a better passer and work on those aspect of his game, but I think he’s a really good talent that should help us for two years once he gets eligible.”

Harris graduated from Chicago’s St. Rita of Cascia High School.

During his sophomore year at Tulane, Harris averaged 9.1 points and 1.7 rebounds over 33 games.

Harris averaged 18 points per game during his first five American Athletic Conference games.

He is also a threat from the free throw line, averaging four fouls per 40 minutes of game time and hitting 81.4 percent of his free throws.

Harris averaged 13.4 points in games the team won, including a career-best game of 27 points scored.

Harris will join junior Phillip Wittington, another transfer from University of South Carolina Upstate, in redshirting this season. Harris and Wittington are still allowed to practice with the Flashes per NCAA rules.

Harris and Wittington will join freshman Bradley Duling, junior Akiean Frederick and junior Jonathan Nwankwo, each of whom are immediately eligible, next year for the 2018-2019 season.

The five men of the 2017 recruiting class will join sports performance coach Rhen Vail in the weight room this summer.
