Tony and Emmy Award-winning costume designer Paul Tazewell will speak at Kent State’s E. Turner Stump Theatre on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

Tazewell, an Akron native who designed costumes for “Hamilton” and “The Wiz Live!” on NBC, will speak during the 16th year of the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series at Kent State.

According to a press release from Kent State, Tazewell has designed costumes for more than 25 years, including many for Broadway shows, and has worked around the world in places like Tokyo, London, Moscow and Paris.

His most recent venture in film was designing for the Oprah-headlined “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” He has also designed costumes for the Metropolitan Opera, the National Theatre and the English National Opera.

Tazewell has been the recipient of awards ranging from the Irene Sharaff Young Master Award to a Princess Grace Foundation Fellowship.

His is currently designing for three new musicals, and has started fittings for the London production of “Hamilton.”

Tazewell will be holding a master class for design undergraduate and graduate students at Kent State’s School of Theatre and Dance.

The event will be free and open to the public. Free parking will be available for those who attend, and there will be a complimentary dessert reception following.
