Field hockey upsets No. 23 Ohio State on Delpech’s late goal

Kent State midfielder Silvia Figa Malgosa hits the ball down the field on Oct. 30, 2016. Kent State beat Saint Francis 2-0.

Kent State field hockey (2-3) snuck past No. 23 Ohio State (2-1) on senior Ines Delpech’s goal in the 63rd minute.

In total, the Flashes only recorded three shots in the whole contest, with Delpech’s goal standing as their only shot in the second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Kylie LeBlanc had the best game of her collegiate career, as she recorded five saves in the victory.

LeBlanc’s lone mistake came in the 25th minute when Ohio State senior Maddy Humphrey finished after receiving a long-distance pass from freshman Juliette Duquesne.

The Flashes’ first goal came off the stick of senior Jamie Fries, who knocked it in off of a penalty corner. The assist went to senior Jessica Nesbitt.

Nesbitt and freshman Clara Rodriguez Seto both recorded the assist on Fries’ game-winner.

The Flashes will be back in action Saturday when they take on Temple University in Evanston, Illinois. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
