Field Hockey records first win of the year over weekend
The Kent State field hockey team recorded their first win of the year Saturday when they beat St. Francis University (2-2) by a final score of 1-0, before falling to Louisville (3-1) Sunday.
The Flashes’ matchup against St. Francis was a defensive one, as they allowed the Red Flash to record four shots on goal.
The lone goal of the match came in the 14th minute when junior Helen Harper took a pass from junior Courtney Weise, and roped it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Red Flash had their best opportunity to score in the 57th minute when sophomore Taylor Nesmith had a breakaway opportunity, but missed wide left. Freshman Azure Fernsler recorded the shutout in goal.
The Flashes’ final game of the weekend didn’t go their way, as Louisville senior Nicole Woods recorded a hat trick to lead the Cardinals to a 5-1 victory.
The Cardinals also had goals from senior Marigrace Ragsdale and sophomore Minout Mink. In total, Louisville recorded 25 shots on goal.
The Flashes’ lone goal came in the 61st minute when senior Ines Delpech knocked it in, with the assist coming from senior Jessica Nesbitt and freshman Clara Rodriguez Seto.
The Flashes are back in action Tuesday when they take on Ohio State in Columbus at 3 p.m.
