Putt-putt golfers to descend on downtown Kent

Local residents Teresa and Scott Simone putt-putt at Zephyr Pub in Kent, at the annual Putt Around Downtown event on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016.

Kent residents can golf their way between 18 downtown businesses Saturday during the annual Putt Around Downtown event.

Tickets to the Main Street Kent-sponsored event cost $15 per person, or $50 for a group of four. Golfing will start at 1 p.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.

The 18 participating businesses will have custom-designed putt-putt golf holes set up for participants.

Golfers will begin at their designated “start hole,” said Heather Malarcik, executive director of Main Street Kent. Then they will continue to the other holes, getting acquainted with downtown businesses. Golfers will also receive gifts.

“You get a black squirrel golf ball and a scorecard,” Malarcik said in a phone call last month. Participants will also receive a drink ticket and a ticket for the prize raffle to be held in Venice Cafe at 4 p.m.

A variety of businesses are participating in the event, including Twisted Meltz, Franklin School of Dance, FJ Kluth Art Gallery and Bent Tree Coffee. Some businesses, such as Belleria Pizza and Dr. V & G’s Sauce Shack, have participated before, while this is the first year for others like Panini’s and Sugar Rush.

Main Street Kent’s website describes Putt Around Downtown as “a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Kent,” and encourages golfers to eat and shop downtown during the event.

Last year’s Putt Around Downtown sold out with 99 tickets sold.
