Students to discuss discrimination tactics at Discrimination Station

As part of the MLK commemoration, students will tackle strategies on how to respond to acts of discrimination at the second annual Discrimination Station.

Director of the Student Multicultural Center, Talea Drummer, said students who attend are thrown into different scenarios of discrimination and bias.

“We have different actors and actresses that will be a part of it to help us enhance the experience,” Drummer said.

Scenarios at the Discrimination Station are “uncomfortable” but create and carry an impact, Drummer said.

“The scenarios we create are based off experiences our students have had,” Drummer said. “Or things we’ve seen ourselves.”

Toward the end of the event, students will have a discussion about what can be learned and what can be done differently.

The Discrimination Station, hosted by the Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, will take place on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in room 315 of the Kent Student Center.
