Flashes take nine events in final test before conference championships

The Kent State men’s and women’s track and field teams combined to win nine events Saturday at the Kent State Tune Up in the Field House.

The tune up was the last home meet for the Flashes and concluded the teams’ regular seasons.

Cayla Carey won the 60-meter dash, reaching a season-best time of 7.76 seconds, which is still a little off her personal record of 7.72 seconds. Carey also won the long jump, leaping 20 feet, 3.50 inches. The jump is ranked at No. 17 in the country, tied for first in the Mid-American Conference this year and has now placed her third in Kent State record books.

Maddie Dunlap reached a personal record on her way to winning the mile run with a time of 5 minutes, 1.71 seconds.

Nicole Yeargin, Irene Skinner, Lauren Burnett and Tyler Williams won the 4×400-meter relay and reached a season-best time of 3 minutes, 48.54 seconds. Skinner also took first in the 400-meter dash.

Mi’Angel Daniels placed first in the 60-meter hurdles.

Britni Phillips took first in the triple jump, as well as reached a personal record with a distance of 40 feet, 2.25 inches. Her mark now ranks ninth in Kent State track and field history.

Samantha Tollerud took first in the pole vault followed by Gabrielle Figueroa, who placed first in the weight throw.

David Paliscak was also victorious in the shot put with a throw of 57 feet, 5.75 inches.

Both teams compete next on Feb. 23 at the Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Bowling Green.
