Tri Sigma Night Live draws inspiration from ‘Saturday Night Live’ for fundraiser
Kent State’s Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority will be holding their annual Tri Sigma Night Live philanthropy event in support of The March of Dimes, Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation and children’s play therapy. The event offers a night full of skits from “Saturday Night Live,” “Mad TV” and social media platforms Vine and YouTube. It will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Cartwright Hall auditorium. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization that is committed to improving the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation’s mission is to create opportunities for donors to support leadership development, scholarship, philanthropy and service. All proceeds from the event will be donated on behalf of Tri Sigma at Kent State University.
“The most rewarding thing for me has been knowing how many people we have been able to help since we established March of Dimes as a philanthropic partner in 2016,” said Haley Foster, a Tri Sigma Night Live Committee co-chair. Last year, Tri Sigma raised nearly $23,000 for the cause.
At the event, each participating Greek organization will have the opportunity to present their skit in front of the audience and the four judges, who will be scoring them based on content, creativity and relativity to the philanthropy.
The judges include two Kent State Tri Sigma alumni, a sister for whom the cause is especially close to her heart and a representative from the March of Dimes.
All students, in Greek life or not, are encouraged to attend the event and raise awareness for the charities.
Tickets can be purchased at the event for $10.
