Roughly 100 students have been working with Kent State Independent Films over the past year to bring a challenging script to life.

Now, the organization is putting the finishing touches on their movie premiere.

Fly By Night is a neo-noir crime drama that follows two detectives who lead very opposite lives. It will show April 28 at Cartwright Hall.

“This is the first film we’ve done that wasn’t based on a college campus,” said Nate Shively, co-director of the film. “We had to find locations like police stations, a jail … very tough locations that made the film look like a real film and not a student film.”

The script was written by Erica Collins, a 2017 graduate who majored in digital media production.

The cast is made up of actors from the Cleveland area found through local acting schools and talent agencies.

The film itself was shot over two months in the summer while post production began with the film editing in the fall, followed by the audio editing in the spring.

“Students should come out and see this film to see what Kent State students are capable of,” Shively said.
