Basketball tournament to be held in Devin Moore’s honor
The Psi Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will be holding a basketball classic in Devin Moore’s honor.
Moore died on December 6 while playing basketball at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on campus.
According to his fraternity brothers, basketball was Moore’s favorite sport and this is their way of honoring him in the best way possible.
“He was a big basketball fan, a huge Lebron fan, so the whole annual tournament in his name is the least we can do and we hope it becomes a huge event on campus,” said junior integrated health studies major and member of the fraternity Wesley Harris.
Tyler Thompson, a senior sports administration major, has been working hard to promote the event for his fraternity. He’s reached out to the Browns, Cavs and the Miami Dolphins for sponsorship and help with the event.
“We’re putting the whole event on to raise money for Devin’s scholarship and making sure people know he hasn’t been forgotten and neither will his legacy,” Thompson said.
The fraternity will also be hosting events that week based on CPR and health wellness.
“We wanna make sure people know how to take care of other people when situations arrive like that,” Harris said. “It’s gonna be a weekend of awareness.”
The Devin C.G. Moore 3 on 3 Basketball Classic will take place on April 21 at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at 10 a.m.
