Summer Solstice event to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s

Recreational Services and Employee Wellness is teaming up to host The Longest Day, a sunup to sundown field day promoting awareness and raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.

A day full of activities is being held at the Kent State Student Recreation Fields to raise awareness and funds to advance Alzheimer’s research and support.

“This is such an important cause,” said Kim Hauge, the director of Employee Wellness. “There is so much awareness around it to be raised.”

June 21, the longest day of the year, will begin with a sunrise yoga at 6:15 a.m. at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. A field day at the outdoor pavilion and field on campus kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and is open to the public.

Kelsey Loushin from IMPACT Solutions will educate guests on how its organization can support university employees and families in need of eldercare assistance from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 a.m. at the pavilion.

Outdoor Activities at the field include water balloon toss and relay, wet sponge relay, hula hoop toss, pool noodle baseball, tipsy waiter, football and ladder golf. Bonus activities at the Rec Center between attending any Group X class for free, include open swim from 12 – 5 p.m., spinning from 7:15 – 7:45 p.m. and sunset yoga from 8 – 9 p.m.
