Coroner identifies body as missing Kent State student
The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday afternoon that the body found near North Bend Road in Ashtabula belongs to missing Kent State student Rand Hilal Al Dulaimi.
Sheriff Bill Johnson said the coroner’s office is still working on determining the cause and manner of her death.
The investigation surrounding the “suspicious” disappearance is ongoing, he said. Nobody has been arrested in the case.
Police found the body Tuesday evening and called off any further searching.
Al Dulaimi has been missing since July 9, and the sheriff’s office, as well as the Ashtabula Police Department, the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the FBI, has been searching since July 11, when the 23-year-old’s family reported her disappearance.
Jeffrey Stanley, the estranged husband of Al Dulaimi who was named a person of interest in the case, remains at the Ashtabula County Jail on an unrelated charge.
He has kept quiet on the disappearance of Al Dulaimi, Johnson said.
“I will say it’s a relief for all the agencies involved, but it’s unfortunate, and we certainly wanted a different outcome,” he said.
