Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams failed to top the charts in the Bradley Pink Classic this past weekend. Kent State men’s cross country finished 23rd out of 33 teams. The women finished 23rd out of 39.

The men and women’s team had runners spread throughout the scoreboards ranging from 36th to 234th place for the men and 58th to 212th for the women.

“The course as a whole went really well for us,” coach Tyler Griffin said. “The course got pretty beat up from the three races that went before us, which I think slowed down the times quite a bit, but it was great to see some different competition.”

Junior Clark Bookman was the fastest Kent State men’s runner in the tournament finishing in 36th with a time of 25:19.6. Freshman Alex Stamper was the second fastest for the men coming in 70th with a time of 25:45.6.

Bookman has consistently been the men’s team top runner for Kent State this season. Stamper has also been consistent and does not finish far behind Bookman. For a freshman he has stepped up to the plate as being one of Kent State’s top runners.  

Sophomore Maddie Dunlap was the women’s fastest runner coming in 58th with a time of 21:52.6. Sophomore Nicole Fleming was the second fastest for Kent State coming in 95th with a time of 22:11.5.

“I think the team is starting to feel all the training they have done to this point.” Griffin said. “They are starting to feel more fresh, so I am excited to see how we run in the MAC Championship.”  

Kent State cross country will have their next meet at the Mid-American Conference Championship in Toledo, Ohio on Oct. 27.
