Kent State cross country finishes behind leaders at All-Ohio

Junior Clark Bookman and sophomore Maddie Dunlap both finished in the top 20, but Kent State’s cross country teams were well behind their leaders at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships in Norton Saturday.

Dunlap came in 12th place out of 307 runners with a time of 21:58.3.

Junior Bookman was 18th out of 324 runners with a time of 24:49.2.

“Maddie Dunlap had a great day leading the women.” coach Tyler Griffin said. “Alex Stamper had a great first race and Clark Bookman looked really strong up front with a big personal best.”

Freshman Leah Lisle came in 52nd with a time of 23:00 for the women. Sophomore Nicole Fleming came in 72nd in 23:22.0.

For the men, freshman Alex Stamper came in 26th in 25:02.9. Stamper also placed 14th in the last meet to start off his freshman year.

Senior Kevin Jones came in 42nd with a time of 25:22.0. Junior Sam Goodman came in 50th with a time of 25:28.1.

“The meet went well but we had some people not perform to their full abilities.” Griffin said. “We are moving in the right direction moving toward the end of the season.”

“The team ran well as a pack this weekend. They worked well together and that is going to be a big help for us moving forward into the season.”

Both teams have their next meet on Oct.12 for the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois.
