Election things (needs headline)
The 2018 midterm elections are next week and early voting is already under way.
Ohio residents will be electing a governor and are voting on many ballot issues such as Issue 1, which, if approved, would reduce felony drug charges and reduce the sentencing for drug offenders who participate in rehabilitation programs.
If you live in Kent or in the Portage County area, here are some of the county-wide and city issues that are on the ballot this year.
Issue 14
Residents will be voting whether to renew the tax levy for the Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities. If voted yes, the board will be able to use funds for renovations and maintenance.
Issue 15
The Portage County Mental Health and Recovery Board wants to replace the current tax levy to help bring in funds to improve mental health programs.
Issue 16
Kent residents are voting to whether or not amend their ordinance regarding recalling petitions and elections. The amendment would change the required percentage of petitions signatures from 20 percent to 25 percent and the petition will need to have a verified statement.
Issue 17
A restaurant in Kent is looking to start selling alcohol on Sundays. David & Cathy Tribuzzo dza Bistro on Main Street wants to sell wine, mixed drinks and liquor between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m.
