Comedian John Mulaney brings laughter to campus
The Kent community enjoyed a night of laughs when comedian John Mulaney performed at the M.A.C. Center Sunday night as a sponsored performance hosted by the Undergraduate Student Government.
Mulaney has had a wide range of projects and success in his career. He’s worked for Comedy Central, Saturday Night Live and also has an array of comedy specials available on Netflix.
Mulaney also made an appearance on Broadway with friend and fellow comedian Nick Kroll in the show “Oh, Hello,” which Mulaney and Kroll created and wrote together.
The M.A.C. Center was packed for the event, with several lines stretching from the entrance before the show that still hadn’t cleared by the time the opening act began hit set.
Kent State senior public relations major Abigail Winternitz was very excited to hear about Mulaney coming to perform on campus.
“I’ve been a big fan for a really long time and being able to see him was a dream come true,” Winternitz said.
Kent resident Grace Schuler said she was pleased with how convenient it was to have the show in Kent.
“I was really excited,” Schuler said. “I didn’t think he’d come so close. I thought he’d go somewhere like Cleveland, but Kent is just so much easier.”
Students Brandon Kearns and Katie Jacob attended the show. They are “big John Mulaney fans” and they were excited to hear he would be performing on campus.
“We were so excited, we bought our tickets like the first day they went on sale,” Kearns said. “The show was great, it was really funny.”
Ryan Hirnikl, a student in the audience, said he would like to see more performances like Mulaney on campus.
“I’ve seen his specials before, and I was really excited that he was coming here to perform,” Hirnikl said.
As audience members poured out of the M.A.C. after the show, there was nothing but laughter and positive energy.
