Gutsy defensive effort leads Flashes to win over NJIT

Kent State freshman guard Asiah Dingle dribbles down the court during a game against Oakland University Nov. 18, 2018. Kent State won the game 75-65.

Megan Carter and Asiah Dingle combined for 34 points while the Flashes held NJIT to 1-for-14 shooting from the three-point in the Flashes’ 57-40 win over the Highlanders on Friday.

Carter, who led the Flashes (6-4) with 19 points, finished with double-digits in scoring for the first time in three games. She scored three against Robert Morris on Dec. 7 and nine against St. Bonaventure on Dec. 17. Carter was complimented by Dingle’s 15 points on 6-for-14 shooting.

Carter and Dingle were the only Flashes to finish in double figures scoring. Ali Poole finished with eight, while Lindsey Thall had seven. No other Flashes scored more than three points.

The Flashes went into the second quarter trailing, 11-8, but took a 13-11 lead on a jumper by Thall with 8:15 left in the second quarter, a lead the Flashes wouldn’t relinquish throughout the duration of the game.

Tatianna Torres scored 11 points for NJIT, the only Highlander to finish in double figures.

The Flashes are back in action when they take on Clarion in the M.A.C. Center at noon on Dec. 31.
