Alumni couples come back to Kent State every year to relive their love stories by participating in “The Kiss at the K.” This year, the “Kiss at the K” was held during the Flash Nation Tailgate.
Couples of all ages gathered around at the tailgate to share a kiss as confetti fell, taking them back to the day they first fell in love at Kent State University.
Alumni couple Jean Booth ‘76 and Don Booth ‘68 love visiting the university every year for Homecoming.
“We love the school and the people,” Jean Booth said.
One of their first dates at Kent was attending a blind date party, and they have been in love ever since. The Booths have now been married for 61 years and have three daughters.
Another story is from recent 2020 graduate couple, Kate Scaduto and Spencer McCrea. Scaduto and McCrea met while both living in Lake Hall their freshman year of college. They considered their first date to be walking to the Recreation Center and then getting food at Eastway afterwards.
“So, we would walk from Lake Hall to the Rec and then go get food in Eastway and that’s kind of how that started,” McCrea said. The couple has now been dating for eight and a half years.
Another story is from Inola Vohsing ‘19 and Bryan Vohsing ‘20. Bryan Vohsing lived three doors down from Inola Vohsing’s best friend, who Inola Vohsing was on the Quidditch team with, which then led Bryan Vohsing to join the Quidditch team.
“I joined the Quidditch team so that I could be around her more, and then we were friends and then we started dating,” Bryan Vohsing said.
The Vohsings’ first date was at the Kent State Hockey game, and afterwards they went to Twisted Meltz in Acorn Alley, which is no longer around anymore. They shared how it was one of their favorite places and that it is something they miss.
“Rest in peace, Twisted Meltz,” Bryan Vohsing said.
“Kiss at the K” has been a tradition for over 14 years now, and will continue to be a Homecoming tradition in years to come.
