A new $100,000 fee was announced Sept. 19 for new applicants of the H-1B visa, raising concerns among international students at Kent State who hope to start a career in the U.S. after they graduate.
This visa allows companies to hire specialized international workers for a period of three years, with the option of renewal.
For many international students, this is what gives them the opportunity to start their career in the U.S.
Companies are usually responsible for all visa fees, which is why the newly added cost raises concerns that the higher price tag could discourage companies from sponsoring international hires.
This new fee took effect Sept. 21, causing many international students to rethink their future plans, and for some, decide to leave the U.S. when their studies are complete.
