With the semester beginning again and the fall season slowly coming up, it’s safe to say that the summer season has come to an end. However, one of the biggest highlights of summer 2025 was the films that were released.
But the question is, what were the best films of the summer?
Live Action “How To Train Your Dragon”:
Firstly, one of the biggest films in June was the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon.” Despite being another live-action remake, this film was truly amazing! Even though the film was a shot-for-shot remake of the original animated film, it felt good to relive and watch this film in theaters again. Plus, the dragon designs used in this film were great, and the cast did a great job bringing the characters to life, especially Mason Thames as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid. However, my only gripe with this film is that it had a few minor changes from the animated film that weren’t needed.
“F1”:
Considering I didn’t know much about Formula 1 racing going into this film, it surprised me a lot, especially the visuals used for the racing scenes. It was probably some of the best cinematography I’ve seen in modern cinema. I also liked how this film had an underdog story, where Brad Pitt’s character helps a Formula 1 team go from underdogs to champions.
“Jurassic World Rebirth”:
With this film being the seventh installment in the Jurassic franchise, it also surprised me. I was expecting this film to be another cash grab, like the last two, but this film felt like a better Jurassic film story, and the dinosaurs were actually curious creatures, not just monsters like we’ve seen in the past. As for the human characters, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali and Scarlett Johansson were great, especially since this is Scarlett Johansson’s first significant role since Natasha Romanoff in the MCU.
“Superman”:
This film was one of my most anticipated films of the year, and after seeing it, it is not just the best film of the year to me, but also the best comic book film we have had in a while. After having Superman portrayed as dark and gritty for the past decade, it felt great to see that DC is finally giving us a proper adaptation of the character. Everyone in the cast was fantastic in their roles, especially David Corenswet as Superman, who is the best Superman casting since Christopher Reeve. However, the main thing that makes this movie impactful is that it’s not just another comic book film, but a film about kindness, hope and humanity – something we can all appreciate nowadays. With this being the first film in James Gunn’s “DCU,” I can see this franchise having a bright future.
Fantastic Four First Steps:
With the MCU making its comeback, this film didn’t disappoint and is definitely one of the better MCU films Marvel has put out! I also loved how this film was a proper adaptation of Marvel’s first family, and I thought the visuals of the futuristic retro world this film was set in, along with the practical effects used for The Thing and Galactus, were unique. However, the cast, who received hate from the “fans,” proves the haters wrong because each of them, especially Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn, embodied their roles so well, and their chemistry with each other was perfect, making it believable that this is a real family.
In the end, even if you missed these films during the summer season, they are definitely worth watching during the fall season.
