Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative influencer and founder of Turning Point USA, has died after being shot in the neck at an Utah Valley University event.
Although word has spread that police had taken custody of a suspect, the shooting suspect is not yet in custody, said Utah Valley spokesperson Ellen Treanor via CNN.
Kirk was beginning a tour, speaking at college campuses across the country, and Utah Valley was his first stop. During a question about mass shooters, Kirk was shot from a building roughly 200 yards from the event.
Based on current information, it is believed that the attack was premeditated and carried out with a rifle.
Kirk was traveling with his own private security and was hospitalized in critical condition before he was pronounced dead.
This is a developing story.
