Following the Kent State football team’s first win in two seasons, the Flashes were blown out by the Texas Tech Red Raiders 62-14 in their road debut.
The Flashes are now 1-1 (0-0) after the first weekend of September as Texas Tech stays hot and moves to 2-0 (0-0) on the year.
From the moment Flashes senior kicker Will Hryszko’s cleat kicked the ball to the Red Raiders to kick off the game, Texas Tech remained in the driver’s seat all game. Heading into halftime, Texas Tech led 48-0 and led 55-0 before KSU scored.
On offense, the Flashes only mustered 229 yards of total offense, and their only scores came in the fourth quarter. The best drive of the day for KSU was an eight-play, 83-yard series that resulted in a passing touchdown from redshirt freshman quarterback Dru DeShields to redshirt freshman wide receiver Cade Wolford, his third in two games.
The defensive side of the ball was also a massive struggle for the Flashes, as the unit gave up 601 yards from scrimmage. The first half was especially tough for the Flashes. At one point in the first quarter, the Red Raiders scored 21 points in just over five minutes.
Next week marks the start of Mid-American Conference action for KSU, and they will take on Buffalo at home at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last time the Flashes and Bulls met, Buffalo defeated KSU 43-7.
