The Flash Activities Board welcomed students to its first trivia night of the year Thursday, Aug. 28, in the Rathskeller, offering the chance to get to know each other.
The “Trivia Sampler” included questions of all themes so students could get a feel for how FAB trivia goes. The questions were organized into four different rounds: STEM, history and geography, entertainment and Kent State trivia. Various prizes like Lego sets and Kent merchandise were offered to the winner of each round.
FAB is known for its unique events planned for students to come together and relax. This school year alone, FAB has hosted multiple events already, including “Big Dollar Bingo” and “Journals and Frames.”
Cooper Pontis, a sophomore tourism management major, organized the trivia night. Pontis originally started as a volunteer for FAB last year and later became a part of the event staff in January.
He said he wanted to join FAB because he “liked all the fun events” and “wanted to get to know more people.”
Pontis said the end goal of FAB events is “to make people feel more engaged on campus and let them meet new people.” The sampler had a sizable turnout with over 100 students joining the Kahoot server the trivia was hosted through.
Freshman fashion design student Aubrey Spinetti, who had previously attended one of FAB’s events this year, viewed the event as a comfortable space to make friends.
“Everybody can go, and it’s very inclusive, and it’s a lot of fun,” Spinetti said. “I feel like it’s great just to meet new people and just have fun and relax and chill.”
Marina DeNinno is a returning FAB event attendee and said she has been to multiple of its events during her time at Kent. DeNinno, a sophomore photography student, shared her favorite past FAB events.
“My favorite events are the bingos and the trivias,” she said. “They’re just a fun way to relax.”
DeNinno views FAB events as a way to unwind while adjusting to campus life.
“They’re a really good way to just decompress after a long week of classes or just if you’re really busy,” she said.
The board is consistently announcing new events and activities for students to attend. Nine more trivia games are scheduled this school year, according to Pontis.
The next trivia event will be superhero-themed on Sept. 18, according to hints given at the sampler trivia.
“We’re trying to match that ‘Flashes take care of Flashes’ motto,” Pontis said. “We want to make sure everyone enjoys their time here at Kent State.”
