Health officials confirmed the fire that broke out Tuesday night inside Eastway Center was a grease fire, according to the Kent City Health Department and Kent State University Culinary Services.
A health inspector followed up on the fire early Wednesday morning, according to the department. The inspector determined that Eastway was cleared for operation.
The university told the department that the affected grill area, known as the Flash Grill, will likely be closed for the remainder of the semester. The food usually prepared at this station will be moved elsewhere inside of Eastway.
Flash Grill will require inspections from Fire Safety and Health before it can reopen, according to the health department.
