Reactions flooded a Kent State University Instagram post (@kentstate) Monday when the account participated in a popular trend of using generative AI to turn someone or something into an action figure. In KSU’s case, the mascot Flash is the action figure in the AI design.
There are over 50 commenters sharing their dissatisfaction with the post. Many asking why the university did not recruit a design or art student to create the content.
Kent State’s director of Visual Communication Design, Daniel Alenquer, says there is a learning opportunity here to see how people can embrace the technology as a tool.
AI is also being discussed in university classrooms to prepare for student’s future careers.
