As the spring season begins, Disney is celebrating their release of the live-action “Snow White” remake. The film had a lot of controversial reactions and is currently flopping at the box office. With the amount of recent live action remakes from Disney, is this one more terrible than the rest?
The story begins with a flashback of Snow White, played by Rachel Zegler, and her parents ruling over their kingdom in peace and kindness. Flash forward to present day, Snow White tragically loses her mother and father after they mysteriously disappear. This loss leads to the kingdom being ruled by the Evil Queen, played by Gal Gadot.
Soon after, Snow White meets a thief, played by Andrew Burnap, who is captured by the queen. However, Snow White releases him, and when the queen asks her magic mirror “Who’s the fairest of the land,” the magic mirror says Snow White because of her kindness and courage.
Infuriated by this, the Evil Queen sends her huntsman to go and kill Snow White. He refuses after seeing how kind Snow White is and he tells her to run away. This sets off her journey to save her kingdom and become the leader that she’s destined to become.
My overall impression of the film is mostly favorable. I do not hate it like others do and I was thoroughly entertained. Even though the sheer amount of live-action remakes we’ve been getting from Disney is becoming overkill, this film was not the worst of the bunch.
The main thing I liked about this film was that it added more story to the original plot from 1937. However, it did not balance out as well as the live action “Cinderella” and “Beauty and The Beast” films.
The CGI designs for the seven dwarfs were truly underwhelming, but this film does have great visual effects otherwise, and the songs were so much more memorable than those on the original soundtrack.
As far as performances go, Zegler was the star player. Despite her getting excessive hate and judgement after being cast in the role of Snow White, she performed the character beautifully. She proved her haters wrong in this film and I love her for it.
However, Gadot had the worst performance of the film, and I believe Disney should have cast Lana Parrilla, who played the Evil Queen in the TV show “Once Upon A Time.”
My overall rating of this film is a 7/10. While I did not love it, I was thoroughly entertained. Zegler was by far the best part of this film, leading me to further believe that the hate she is receiving is unwarranted and baseless. Even though this film has its flaws, it adds more to Snow White’s story as a whole.

I agree. Cancel culture and the negative bandwagon effect lessened Snow White’s brilliance. Zegler was wonderful in it!
