An Amazon truck driver overturned his truck on I-76 westbound at State Route 43 in Brimfield Township around 6:45 a.m., causing the route to be closed for four hours for cleanup on April 1.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Shaun Baskerville said 37-year-old Sayzali Yusbupov from Hickory Hills, Illinois, drove a 2017 Freightliner with a 2025 Great Dane semi-trailer on State 43 before overturning the vehicle.
While traveling from the left side of the interstate, Yusbupov overturned the truck and semi-trailer into the grass, striking the cable medium barrier, he said.
Yusbupov sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries, and was taken to Akron City Hospital, Baskerville said.
Following the overturn, Yusbupov was charged with failure to maintain reasonable control, he said.
“Just because he failed to maintain control of the vehicle like nothing nefarious. We don’t suspect drugs, alcohol or anything like that,” Baskerville said. “There was no indicator of any of that stuff.”
Brimfield Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio State Highway Commercial Enforcement also responded to the overturn, he said.
Baskerville said State Route 43 reopened at 11 a.m.
As of now, the accident report is not complete. Baskerville said the Highway Patrol has 10 days to complete a report.
Following the overturn, he said it is important for drivers to not be distracted while driving to avoid potential overturns and accidents.
