Spring is in the air and Kent students are enjoying every minute of it. We all know how odd Ohio weather can get from time to time, but we are finally having our first look at spring. Students were laying out in hammocks, relaxing on the swings and doing all sorts of different outdoor activities.
As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, students are shedding their winter coats in favor of light jackets. With flowers blooming and birds chirping, it’s hard not to feel a little more optimistic.
There are also a ton of new events happening that are capitalizing on the warm weather.
Campus clubs and organizations are super excited to be back out in action, showcasing what they do in the sun. I know that I, for one, can’t wait for the LARP-ers to make an appearance on the K — that is when you truly know spring has sprung.
Something else to look forward to are the walks around campus. The landscaping, wildlife and fresh air make Kent’s campus the perfect place to walk. From heading to class to strolling downtown, it is incredibly refreshing to just be out and about.
However, with the changing of the seasons also come some challenges. Allergies are a large trade-off for the beauty of the spring season, hitting students hard with runny noses and watery eyes. The hot sun and clear skies tempt students to skip classes, trading their lecture seat for a hammock, but there are ways to achieve a balance between the two. Taking breaks from studying for finals by going outside can be a boost that you didn’t realize you needed.
Spring isn’t just a season, it’s a whole experience. Connecting with friends and the outdoors as the weather grows clearer is a new vibe, different from the dark, frigid days of winter. Student markets and fairs are going to pop up soon, not to mention being able to wear that cute dress you got in the dead of winter.
Spring is something that we have all been waiting for. As someone who gets the winter blues, I can tell you that spring couldn’t have come sooner. The little joys that come with the warm weather are something that no one can ignore, especially on a campus like Kent.
Now go out and enjoy the weather, spring is calling.
