A Kent man died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing State Route 43 in Brimfield at 10:41 p.m. on March 28.
In a press release, the Ravenna post of the Ohio Highway Patrol identified the pedestrian as 77-year-old Kent resident Arthur W. Jones Jr.
Jones was crossing from east to west on the state route when a man from Mogadore, who was driving south, noticed Jones “at the last minute” and was unable to stop his car in time before hitting Jones.
When the patrol, Brimfield fire and police departments, Portage County Sheriff’s office, Complete Towing and the Portage County Coroner’s Office arrived at the scene, they found Jones succumbed to his injuries and died. The driver was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
On Facebook, the Brimfield police department offered condolences to Jones’ family.
