The longest-tenured and winningest coach in Kent State men’s basketball history will be back for more, as Kent State has extended coach Rob Senderoff Friday afternoon.
This comes off the heels of a published rumor of Senderoff leaving KSU and signing with Fordham, where he served as the assistant coach from 1997-1999.
Senderoff’s contract will run for six years through the 2030-31 season.
On Friday, a video post to the team’s X account made the announcement public and official.
“I am really happy to let everybody know that I am going to be back here at Kent State,” Senderoff said in the video. “I could not be happier. President Diacon and Randale (Richmond) have positioned us for tremendous success moving forward.”
Senderoff will be coming back after a deep run to the NIT quarterfinals, with their final game, a 72-62 loss to Loyola-University Chicago, happening just two days prior to the announcement.
The Flashes have a 288-176 record with Senderoff at the helm, and the Flashes have never had a losing season with him.
“The energy, passion and dedication he brings daily is contagious, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him continue building on this incredible foundation,” said Randale Richmond, the university’s director of athletics, in a statement. “The future of Kent State basketball has never been brighter.”
After 14 seasons, two Mid-American Conference Tournament championships, one trip to the NIT, two appearances in NCAA’s March Madness and a MAC Coach of the Year award, Senderoff is all in for more with Kent State.
“If you were wondering if the school was going to make a commitment to a coach, they have at a really high level,” Senderoff said. “I am glad to be your coach, and I cannot wait to continue to keep this thing rolling.”
