First: University Townhomes
University Townhomes was voted best off-campus housing in Kent, offering a comfortable living space during students’ academic careers.
The apartment homes are located on East Summit Street and offer individual leases with flexible payment plans.
Debbie Davis, University Townhomes’ property manager, said she believes residents enjoy living at the townhomes.

“I think a lot of it is because we are a small company, so we are really flexible about how we work with our students,” Davis said. “We have been doing this for over 20 years now, so we have a really good feel as to what our residents expect out of us.”
The complex has a multitude of floor plans with four and five-bedroom apartments, including single-bedroom availability as well.
The apartments also have appliances with a washer and dryer in each unit, central air conditioning and heat, parking spots outside the front door, private patios with pet-friendly green spaces, a community pavilion and a volleyball court.
The complex includes newly updated features such as kitchen countertops, cabinets, bathroom remodels, luxury plank flooring, exterior siding on windows and doors and modern safety with security features. Davis provided insight into the new changes.
“The biggest thing we have heard from people touring is that we have fully planked flooring — no carpet,” she said.“We repainted our cabinets white, which brightened up the place a little more. We have a wonderful green space, and that seems to be very important to our residents and their pets since we are pet-friendly. Just very clean and open-looking.”
The off-campus housing offers rents starting at $579 per month, creating affordable living situations for college students. Anyone interested can book in-person and virtual tours through University Townhome’s website to get a run-through of what their future apartment could look like.
University Townhomes has been voted best off-campus housing since 2023.
“I personally could not be more proud of the fact that our residents do this every year, and we don’t even push them to do it. It just means a lot,” Davis said.

Second: 345 Flats

345 Flats, located on South Depeyster Street, is another favorite off-campus housing option at Kent State University.
The complex offers anywhere from a four-bedroom apartment to single studio apartments. Located in downtown Kent, they are within walking distance to class or dinner spots.
Bella Ross, a freshman nutrition major, is a resident at 345 Flats.

“I chose 345 Flats over other complexes because of how close it is to campus and my classes,” she said. “Everything is within walking distance, and there is so much to do downtown.”
The complex hosts social events for its residents, creating a close and inclusive community. They also host contests such as apartment decorating competitions.
The apartment features granite countertops, dishwashers, microwaves, stainless steel appliances, refrigerators, Wi-Fi, central heat, air conditioning, fully furnished apartments and more.
They have special amenities such as study lounges, covered parking and a private business center.
“I would recommend 345 Flats to my friends for sure because of the amazing downtown location,” Ross said. “My favorite thing about living there is how nice the modern apartments are.”
Students are able to apply for rates starting at $810 a month.
