FIRST: Board and Bevy
Nestled at 141 E. Summit St., Board and Bevy is a charming, family-run tabletop pub dedicated to delivering an unforgettable gaming experience.
Whether you’re a college student seeking a casual hangout or a family looking for a fun night out, this welcoming spot caters to all ages. With a vast library of over 300 games and a diverse selection of beverages, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. A $5 per person table fee grants customers access to hours of entertainment in a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Owners and husband-and-wife duo Hayley Bennett and Coty Giannelli opened Board and Bevy in 2024 when they restored a historic building in Downtown Kent. The founders said they recognized the gap in welcoming and inclusive spaces in the community.

“We wanted a space that was really welcoming to all ages,” Bennett said. “We have two children ourselves, and we found that as far as things to do in Kent, there are a lot of restaurants, shopping and drinking, but not a lot of in-town activities. We just wanted to bring a wholesome, fun, community-building activity to Kent.”
To bring their vision to life, they said they focused on creating a space that fosters connection. Whether families, friends or individuals are looking for something new, they want everyone to feel at home and enjoy meaningful experiences. This sense of inclusivity and warmth is at the heart of their mission.
“Customers should feel like they are socializing in a very warm and welcoming environment,” Giannelli said.

Creating a space where everyone feels at home goes beyond just providing an activity, they said. Their commitment to inclusivity is something they prioritize in every aspect of their space.
“We hope everyone is extremely comfortable and feels very welcome and cozy,” said Bennett. “We have a very friendly and welcoming environment for everyone of all ages. We want everyone to feel equally welcome, no matter how old they are, all ages, stages and sobrieties.”
Bennett highlighted the social benefits of their establishment, emphasizing its role in fostering connections through a team-building event.
“It’s a great team-building space, a place to break the ice,” Bennett said. “We’re great for dates and breaking in new roommates, because when you have a game in front of you, it takes the pressure off. There’s a natural bridge there because you’re all participating in it.”
At Board and Bevy, the goal is simple: Bringing people together in a space that feels like home. With a welcoming atmosphere, an extensive game library and a focus on inclusivity, it’s more than just a tabletop pub — it’s a community hub where connections are made and memories are created.
Whether you’re a longtime gamer or just looking for a cozy place to unwind, Board and Bevy offers an experience that’s both engaging and inviting for all.

Kent Lanes offers a unique blend of relaxation and fun that keeps people coming back. For many, it’s more than just a place to bowl — it’s about the overall experience and vibe. One regular, Ava Trainer, a freshman fashion merchandising major, shared her favorite part of the experience.
“What I love most about Kent Lanes is it’s the perfect mix of chill and excitement,” Trainer said. “Whether you’re bowling, enjoying a meal in the dining room or hanging out by the tiki bar, the atmosphere is always lively.”

Kent Lanes has quickly become a go-to destination for students, offering a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere tailored to the 21-and-under crowd. With its dynamic mix of entertainment, social events and modern amenities, it provides a lively yet inclusive space where young people can gather, unwind and create lasting memories.
“Kent Lanes is perfect for the 21-and-under crowd because it offers something for everyone,” Trainer said. “The vibrant environment and weekly specials make it an easy, affordable hangout spot for students. It’s a great place to unwind without needing to be 21 to have fun.”
For many, it’s not just about the game, but also the food and drinks that make the outing more enjoyable.
“I usually go for the loaded nachos and a refreshing drink,” Trainer said. “It’s the perfect snack for sharing with friends while you’re taking a break between games.”
Trainer shared what she would recommend to a newcomer.
“I’d recommend Kent Lanes for the outdoor volleyball courts,” she said. “It’s a great way to hang out with friends and just have a good time. If you’re visiting for the first time, you have to try the tiki bar and grab some food.”
THIRD: Kent Plaza Cinemas

Kent Plaza Cinemas, located in the University Plaza Shopping Center at 140 Cherry St., offers a premier movie-going experience with the latest films shown daily.
Ticket prices range from $7 to $10, depending on the showtime and seating selection. The theater also features promotions, including Mighty Movie Mondays, where guests can enjoy any movie for just $6.25 and a free small bag of popcorn. Haleigh Danford, a junior nursing major, is a frequent moviegoer.

“My favorite part about the movie theater is the reclining seats and the popcorn,” Danford said. “I swear that the popcorn just tastes better at the theater.”
Finding fun and affordable ways to unwind is important, especially for students looking for an escape. One popular option is catching a movie at a great price, and there’s no better time than Monday nights. Danford shared when she likes to visit the theater.
“The tickets are very affordable, especially if you go on Mondays,” Danford said. “This is usually the time me and my friends will go. It’s a great way to relax and get a break from school.”

One of the standout features of this entertainment option is its ability to cater to the needs of students, offering an affordable and accessible way to unwind. In addition to regular screenings, Kent Plaza Cinemas hosts birthday parties, offers a rewarding loyalty program, and even sells bulk popcorn for movie lovers to enjoy at home.
“What really sets it apart from other entertainment options is its weekly deals, which make movie nights more affordable and enjoyable for students looking for an easy escape from their busy schedules,” Danford said.
