The Kent State softball team went 0-3 over the weekend against Bowling Green.
“I think that they’re a better team than they were last year, and that they had a good game plan against us,” coach Jessica O’Donnell said.
With the winless weekend, Kent State fell to 7-22 on the season and 0-6 in Mid-American Conference play.
KSU lost 10-2 in its first game of the weekend. It was a short six-inning game.
“Sometimes we let the other team control how we were going to play, and that’s what happened this weekend,” O’Donnell said.
The Falcons scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second, giving them an early 7-0 lead.
“I think that our defense needs to tighten up and make the plays,” O’Donnell said.
The Flashes played a close 7-6 game for their second game of the day on Friday.
“In two games, we had opportunities to be successful and win, but we fell short,” O’Donnell said.
Sophomore outfielder Delaney Nagy had four strikeouts and pitched a career-high of 6.1 innings.
Junior outfielder Carley Penner hit 7-12 over the weekend for the Flashes.
“Offensively, she had a good game going into this series,” O’Donnell said. “She was very productive, and she was finding ways to get on base. I thought she did an awesome job helping us continue the rally and fight.”
KSU lost 9-7 in its last game of the weekend on Saturday.
“I think the biggest thing that we have to remember is to play our game and be confident in what we’re doing,” O’Donnell said.
Senior utility player Katie Jo Moery had the 100th hit of her college career.

The Flashes will host Robert Morris (11-9, 5-1 MAC) at home Tuesday for a doubleheader.
“Robert Morris is having a really great year,” O’Donnell said. “So, they’re going to come in hot, ready to go and attack us.”
The Colonials are on a seven-game winning streak.
“I think this game is going to be good for us to have game experience going into Ohio next weekend,” O’Donnell said.
KSU lost the last two times they played Robert Morris.
“I think when you lose some games repetitively, you lose a little bit of confidence because you’re just trying to find and figure out ways to do it,” O’Donnell said. “I think right now, we have to find our confidence, and we have to start playing together in all areas of our game.”
