In mid-February, the Trump Administration began layoffs among federal employees in the United States Forest Services and the National Parks Services.
These employee leaves have made their way to Northeast Ohio with four probationary employees among the 1,000 national park employees cut.
Deb Yandala, CEO of the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, said probationary workers were recent hires, and despite their short time at the park called these firings unusual.
While the layoffs will be potentially seen with park maintenance, according to Yandala, they can also affect employment for Kent students in their post-graduation endeavors.
Students like Alison Bredek worry about job stability after she completes her final summer internships with CVNP, after her Spring Commencement.
In a press release the National Parks Service, said it plans to hire seasonal workers to help cope with the shrinking staff.
Meanwhile Yandala said the public can help the parks by signing up for volunteer worker positions.
