It has been over a month since President Donald Trump said he was going to help save TikTok and give the ban a 75-day extension at his Inauguration Day. But we have hardly heard any updates about how TikTok is going to be saved.
The good news is that TikTok is back on Apple and Google Stores after days of not being allowed to have the app in stock without facing company fines. Not only does this give people the chance to re-download the app, but it also allows people who did not delete the app a chance to update the app.
But the question is: what is going on with the app, and most importantly, who is going to save it?
As said before, the 75-day extension does not prevent the app from being banned, but it does allot the company who owns the app, ByteDance, more time to find a U.S. company to buy the app.
One of the solutions President Trump suggested is the U.S. Government acquiring a 50% ownership stake of the app. These past few months it has been rumored that Elon Musk would purchase the app, however, it has recently been confirmed that he will not be buying TikTok.
I believe that Trump and TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, are trying to find a way to break a deal with U.S. companies without having press or media coverage until it is absolutely clear that they have found a buyer for the app. This is a smart move, however, it leaves many TikTok users anxious and confused with what’s going to happen to our beloved app.
I love posting on the app along with millions of Americans, and I do not want to see it banned. However, there is a silver lining to all of this, President Trump said he will “most likely” give the ban another extension to ensure that they have really sealed the deal with an American tech company. Either way, something will change soon since the app’s extension will expire April 4.
