The Kent State track and field team sent 13 athletes to the Ashland University Last Chance Meet in Ashland Saturday. Five Flashes earned a top spot on the podium and walked home with some hardware.
“A Last Chance Meet is for keeping rhythm and keeping confidence,” coach Nathan Fanger said.
Redshirt junior Donovan Crawford placed first in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 19.05m. Redshirt sophomore Kennedy Landrus also secured second place in the women’s weight throw with a mark of 17.73m.
In the shot put, redshirt senior Aliesha Shaw placed second in the women’s event with a mark of 15.28m. In the men’s, redshirt sophomore Charles Pawlosky placed fourth with a mark of 17.05m, who was trailed by Anthony Lambert coming in ninth.
“It was a confidence builder for them,” Fanger said.
Sophomore Kyla Taress placed second in the women’s pole vault with a mark of 3.72m.
Noel Frye, Jeremiah Newsome, and Aubrey Schoeneman all placed as high as third and as low as fifth, respectively.
Kent State will head to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete in the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship on Friday.
“It’s gonna come down to the wire,” Fanger said. “Everybody’s mentally geared up.”
