A new shopping destination is arriving to make student life easier in Kent.
Discount store Krazy Bins is opening its latest location right near Kent State’s campus, bringing budget friendly essentials, trendy finds and everyday necessities within walking distance for students and locals. Whether you need last-minute school supplies, dorm room decor or affordable snacks to fuel late night study sessions, Krazy Bins promises convenience and savings all in one place.
Located at 1430 South Water St., the store will open Feb. 28. Krazy Bins owner Noah Leavitt said he sees the new location as a strategic expansion that benefits both the business and local communities. He explained the decision behind choosing this spot.
“We’ve been trying to find locations to continue to grow that are within the Greater Cleveland area,” Leavitt said. “We kind of saw Kent as a really good intermediary to not being right in Akron, but on the outskirts. The school and large population is a great opportunity. I think that the student body and faculty would love the store.”
Krazy Bins consists of overstock merchandise from Target. Leavitt shared what customers can expect from the new location, emphasizing that the shopping experience will mirror that of their original store.
“We buy only from Target, and then every week what we do is we buy three to four truckloads of merchandise. You never know what you’re going to get. Then on Friday, the bins start at $15, and then it just goes down throughout the rest of the week,” he said.
As excitement builds for the new discount store opening near campus, students express their appreciation for the added convenience and affordability. Alexis Baughman, a freshman digital media production major, shared her thoughts.
“With tuition already so expensive, every dollar counts,” Baughman said. “This store opening up near campus is exactly what students need.”
Leavitt highlighted the need for more convenient shopping options in the area, emphasizing how the new store will fill a gap in Kent’s retail scene.
“What I realized about Kent is there’s not a Target,” Leavitt said. “You have to drive to Stow or Streetsboro to get there. The cool thing about Krazy Bins is we are like Target, but more of an outlet. I think it’s an amazing benefit to the community to have such a fun and exciting place.”
Many students are looking forward to the added convenience and affordability the store will bring to their daily shopping.
“It’s great to have more budget-friendly options nearby,” Baughman said. “I won’t have to travel as far to find good deals anymore.”
Leavitt said he has big ambitions for the future. Reflecting on the journey so far, he shared his excitement about expanding the business.
“My goal is to build my company as big as I possibly can,” Leavitt said. “In the beginning, I had a goal of five stores. I just want to continue to grow.”
As excitement builds for the grand opening, the store owner highlighted the benefits the new location will bring to the community.
“Brand new clothes are like $1,” Leavitt said. “With a fashion institute like Kent State, we just thought there could be some good synergies.”
Many are feeling enthusiastic about the new discount store opening near campus, offering supplies students need at prices they can afford.
“I’m always looking for affordable snacks, school supplies and even some dorm decor, so I know I’ll be shopping here all the time,” Baughman said.
Leavitt shared some insight into what shoppers can expect. He said the buzz around the store’s debut is sure to draw in crowds eager to score great deals and even bigger rewards.
“We are trying to go big the first weekend,” Leavitt said. “With a lot of products, it’s going to be really great. We are going to do a giveaway to five customers who will win $100 gift cards.”
Baughman said the new store is more than just a convenient shopping spot. It’s a chance for students like her to stretch their dollars without compromising on the things they need.
“This is such a game changer,” Baughman said. “As a college student on a budget, having a discount store so close means I can save money on essentials without sacrificing quality.”
With the grand opening just around the corner, the new discount store could become a go-to spot for students and locals alike. Leavitt said he promises a shopping experience like no other.
“Customers can expect an amazing and fun shopping experience with highly discounted items on opening day,” he said.
