A new abortion and reproductive healthcare service is now available online in Ohio.
Hey Jane is the country’s largest telehealth medicine abortion provider, with over 70,000 patients.
Their clinical care team is accessible through phone, video, text or chat, and they say they are trying to reach more people across the country with their recent coverage extension to Ohio.
Alyssa Wagner is the medical director of Hey Jane, but keeps deep roots in Ohio as she worked at a local abortion clinic, The North East Ohio Women’s Center, in Cuyahoga Falls for 10 years.
“We get a lot of really honest and really candid questions,” said Wagner, who mentioned the accessible options for communicating with medical professionals.
At Kent State University, emergency contraceptives, commonly known as Plan B, are available for purchase at the Eastway Market through the DeWeese Health Center. However, a study from Advocates For Youth found that 56% of college students in 2023 were not comfortable seeking out reproductive and sexual health care on campus.
Continuing to share resources, Team Hey Jane keeps an active blog and FAQ page, which they say is created from their patients’ questions.
“It’s like having a friend in your phone that you can text about what you’re going through,” Wagner said. “And you know they’re not going to be judgmental, you know they’re going to give you accurate information.”
