Thursday afternoon, Kent’s Anti-Racism and Equity Institute showed an abridged version of the 1960 Edward R. Murrow documentary “Harvest of Shame.” The documentary was chosen to be screened by Activist-in-Residence José Salinas, who felt the film brought experiences to life and allowed audiences to connect with American migrant workers’ stories. Salinas used his own experience growing up with migrant worker parents and his position as director of Ohio Migration Education to convey the struggles they face in addition to their children’s academic experiences. Many attendees used the screening as a chance to educate themselves along with learning lessons of compassion.
