City of Kent council members went over past and current agendas during their committee meeting on Wednesday.
Notably among those agendas was Councilman Roger Sidoti’s motion to recognize Juneteenth as a city holiday on Juneteenth of 2024.
An official ordinance passed on July 24, 2024. City of Kent employees can now enjoy the holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.
Notably the council also mentioned an initiative for warming centers for the unhoused brought up in a motion made by Councilperson Chris Hook on Sept. 18, 2024. The City of Kent allocated $8,000 toward warming for the unhoused; however, the issue is ongoing and they plan to review.
Kent City regular council meetings are free for community members to attend and listen every third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m., located at the Kent Fire Station. More information is available on their website.
